Ta‘lim Curriculum: Primary One

Book 1: Allah the Creator helps children develop a basic understanding of the fundamental Islamic belief of Tawhid (the Oneness of God). Children are led to reflect on the creative and compassionate attributes of God, as manifested in various aspects of the creation. They are also led to appreciate the gift of life and the innate capabilities with which God has endowed them.

Book 2: The Wonderful World of Allah consists of three short stories which seek to enhance children’s understanding of Allah’s kindness and mercy. Through these stories, children realise that God is greater than anything we can imagine, and that all living things are dependent on God for life, sustenance and growth.

Book 3: Prophet Muhammad, introduces children to the concepts of divine guidance and prophethood in Islam. They learn of the continuity of God's guidance to mankind through His prophets and messengers, and the mission of Prophet Muhammad as the final Messenger of God. Children also encounter important values exemplified by the Prophet in his life.

Book 4: The Messenger of Allah presents children with the story of Prophet Muhammad from the time of his birth to the first revelation of the Qur’an. From this narrative, children learn about the people among whom the Prophet grew up, the challenges he experienced, his search for spiritual enlightenment, and the revelation granted to him.

Book 5: Our Imams introduces children to the concept of Imamat, which is fundamental to Shi’a Islam and the Ismaili Tariqah within it. This is done through a brief survey of Imamat from the time of Hazrat Ali, the first Imam, to the present Imam of the Ismaili Muslims. Children also acquire a historical perspective of the Ismaili community, and its tradition of social and cultural development.

In Book 6: Hazrat Ali, presents children with the story of the first Imam, from the time of his birth to the event of Ghadir Khumm. The narrative seeks to enhance children’s awareness of Hazrat Ali’s close relationship with Prophet Muhammad as the latter’s cousin, son-in-law, companion in the cause of Islam, and successor as Imam.

The Activity Book consists of a series of activity sheets to be used with the first year’s curriculum. The activity sheets have been designed to support, reinforce and extend the objectives of each topic in the curriculum. They provide an interesting and creative medium through which children can express themselves by doing practical work in the classroom and at home.

The Teacher’s and Parent’s Guide is the main reference source for implementing the curriculum. It is designed for use in diverse teaching and learning environments, including the classroom and the home. The Guide contains a general introduction to the aims and approaches of the curriculum. It also provides a series of structured topic plans, each consisting of objectives, instructional content, learning activities, and other useful suggestions.

The supplementary materials include six posters and 25 picture cards.
