Practica

What is the role of professional practice in the programme?

London REC class assignment IIS 2011.On joining the course, participants bring a range of perspectives on teaching and learning from the diverse educational contexts in which they operate. Sharing these perspectives and analysing professional practice with peers is central to developing a deeper understanding of subject knowledge and the way adolescents learn.

Practicum Field Experiences

STEP C1 teacher facilitating a religious education class in Khorog IIS 2011.The STEP vision recognises that through well-transitioned field-work episodes, course participants will learn just as their young students will: by studying, doing, and reflecting; by collaborating with other professionals; by observing their adolescent students’ work and environment, and by sharing their observations. Over the two-year MTeach and MA Education programme, course participants will be exposed to experiences in an array of classroom environments such as the Ismaili Religious Education Centres (RECs) in London and their own home countries, and a UK secondary school.

Over the course of Year 1 and Year 2, participants apply their learning to actual secondary classrooms through the following practicum experiences:

  • The London REC Practicum takes place during all three terms (Autumn, Spring and Summer) of Year 1 and during the Autumn term of Year 2.
  • The Home Field Research and Teaching Practice takes place during the Winter term of Year 2.
  • The London Secondary School Placement takes place during all three terms (Autumn, Spring and Summer) of Year 1.
