Ninth Biennial Iranian Studies Conference, Istanbul - 3 August 2012

Dr Alessandro Cancian, Research Associate in the Qur’anic Studies Unit at The Institute of Ismaili Studies, is convening two panels at the Ninth Biennial Iranian Studies Conference. This conference, organised by the International Society for Iranian Studies in partnership with the Iran Heritage Foundation, will be held from the 1–5 August 2012 in Istanbul, Turkey.

The two panels, entitled Approaches to the Qur’an in Contemporary Iran, aim to stimulate discussion on the various approaches to the Qur’an that have emerged in contemporary Iran. This broad area of study has been broken down into two topics. The panels will cover respectively the ‘text’ (the topic of the first panel) and the ‘society’ (the topic of the second panel). They will explore, from different perspectives, the intellectual and cultural production connected with the scripture, its use and multiple articulations, and the impact it had and still has on the intellectual history of contemporary Iran.

The panels are part of a wider project on Approaches to the Qur’an in Contemporary Iran. For more information on the description and areas, please visit the main page of the project.
