At the annual meeting of the Middle Eastern Studies Association (MESA), held on 20-23 November, Dr. Yousef Meri, a Research Fellow of the Institute, organized a panel on the topic of: Defining without Confining: Reflections on Prophetic Usage of Sacred Space with Dr. Farhad Daftary as panel Chair. Class of 2002 students, who recently returned from their pre-programme coursework at the University of Edinburgh, were introduced to the Graduate Programme in Islamic Studies and Humanities and welcomed to the Institute of Ismaili Studies during Orientation Week at the end of September .
"British-Iranian Business News" – a newspaper for Iranians in Britain, interviewed Dr. Farhad Daftary, Head of the Department of Academic Research and Publications at the Institute of Ismaili Studies. In the interview Dr. Daftary talked about his experience as a scholar and writer. He also shared his personal reflections on the Ismaili community and activities of the Institute.
Project Tajikistan at the IIS, in association with the Ismaili Council and ITREB USA, presented this multi-dimensional programme in seven American cities. The programme, inaugurated in Atlanta in February 1999, travelled to Dallas, Miami, Houston, Los Angeles, New York and Chicago. Thousands of visitors viewed the exhibition and performances.
