The IIS is pleased to announce the publication of M. Brett Wilson’s book Translating the Qur’an in an Age of Nationalism: Print Culture and Modern Islam in Turkey, the eleventh in the Qur’anic Studies Series
Dr Daryoush Mohammad Poor has recently published a book entitled Authority without Territory: The Aga Khan Development Network and the Ismaili Imamate.
The new students enrolled on the Graduate Programme in Islamic Studies and Humanities (GPISH) and the Secondary Teacher Education Programme (STEP) have arrived at the IIS and commenced their studies.

The IIS in association with I.B. Tauris is pleased to announce the publication of The Study Of Shi‘i Islam: History, Theology and Law edited by Dr Farhad Daftary & Dr Gurdofarid Miskinzoda.. This is the second book in the newly launched Shi‘i Heritage Series, a new venture that aims at promoting excellence in research in the field of Shi‘i Studies, leading to a better understanding of it. Both, the first volume A History of Shi‘i Islam and the second, are being launched internationally, following formal launch events in London and Portugal.

Dr Stephen Burge, who specialises in the religious works of al-Suyuti in the Institute’s Qur’anic Studies Unit, attended the School of Mamluk Studies Conference which was held in Venice on 22-25 June 2014.
Dr Al-Karim Datoo, Research Coordinator for the Constituency Studies Unit at the IIS, was invited to participate in an international conference organised by France-based organisation CIEP (Centre International d’Études Pédagogiques), a think tank in the field of education, operating under the auspices of the Ministry of Education, Higher Education and Research, contributing to the evolution of ideas and practices while fostering international cooperation.
Drs Omar Alí-de-Unzaga, Stephen Burge and Nuha al-Sha‘ar of the Qur’anic Studies Unit presented a panel entitled Citations of the Qur’an in Islamic Literature at the Inaugural Conference of the British Association for Islamic Studies (BRAIS) in Edinburgh.

Professor Eric Ormsby has received The World Book Award of the Islamic Republic of Iran for his translation of Nasir-i Khusraw’s Jami‘ al-Hikmatayn under the title Between Reason and Revelation: Twin Wisdoms Reconciled.
Three researchers from the Institute presented papers at the Joint Regional Conference of the Association for Slavic, East European and Eurasian Studies on 22-24 May 2014 at Nazarbayev University in Astana, Kazakhstan.
