As a leading figure in Ismaili and Shi’i intellectual history, Dr Daftary has authored a substantial body of academic work over past several decades. His acclaimed titles include The Ismaʿīlis: Their History and Doctrines, The Assassin Legends, and A Short History of the Ismailis, many of which have been translated into multiple languages.
During his tenure at IIS, Dr Daftary has played a leading role in building its publication programmes. As Head of the Department of Academic Research and Publications from 1992 to January 2023, and as Co-Director from 2009 to 2022, he played a central role in establishing and expanding key publication series such as the Ismaili Heritage Series, Ismaili Texts and Translations, and Shiʿi Heritage Series. Since stepping down from his management responsibilities in January 2023, he has continued to engage in research, writing and mentorship.
