Dr Minaz Fazal is an Associate Professor of Education and Director of the Education Department at New York Institute of Technology. Her teaching and scholarship, spanning over 20 years, has focused on evidence-based pedagogy, meaningful assessment, and the strategic integration of education technology to strengthen student learning and programme quality.
As Department Director, Dr Fazal provides academic and strategic leadership and oversight across all teacher education programmes. She chairs the programmes’ Assessment Committee, collaborates on developing new programmes and curriculum, and serves as faculty advisor to all students in the programme. She has also mentored graduate students through their research and thesis process. She has worked on shared governance through service on the university’s Faculty Academic Senate, including as a member of their Institutional Development, Curriculum, and Education Technology committees.
Dr Fazal has continued to volunteer with institutions within and beyond the Ismaili community in the USA as well as globally in various capacities, including supporting teacher professional development initiatives in Tajikistan. She has also served as a Board Member on ITREB USA and contributed to leadership training and capacity building initiatives for communicators across the AKDN and related Ismaili National Councils.
Dr Fazal is the recipient of a New York State Commendation Award from the State senator, honoured for her “lasting contribution to community,” recognising the broader impact of her educational leadership and service.
Dr Fazal’s research examines high-impact instructional practices and the design of rigorous assessment systems that improve learning outcomes. Her research has been published in peer-reviewed journals and she has secured competitive external grants, including from the National Science Foundation.
Dr Fazal holds an MS and PhD in Education from the University of Southern California and continues to advance the field through scholarship, mentorship, and academic leadership.
