The humanistic approach of Chingiz Aitmatov and his legacy worldwide

The purpose of the conference – The Humanistic Approach of Chingiz Aitmatov & His Legacy Worldwide is to celebrate and commemorate the 95th anniversary of the magnificent writer Chingiz Aitmatov with his friends, colleagues and people who knew and admired his work at Aga Khan Centre.

Chingiz Aitmatov is a globally well-renowned writer, philanthropist and environmentalist. He was nominated for the Nobel Prize for Literature in 2008 and received the Austrian Price as European Bestseller author in 1994. Aitmatov was honoured in 1963 with the Lenin Prize for Tales of the Mountains and Steppes (a compilation including Jamila, The First Teacher and Farewell, Gulsary!) and was later awarded a State prize for Farewell, Gulsary! Aitmatov’s art was glorified by admirers. He founded the Issyk-Kul Forum in 1986 on ongoing environmental problems of Central Asia and the whole world in general.

Light refreshments will be provided. Please note photography and filming will be taking place during this event. The conference is organised in collaboration between IIS, Aitmatov Academy, and the Istanbul University, Turkey.
