Biography

Heena is the Secondary Teacher Mentor for In-Service STEP educators in the Department of Education at the IIS. In this role, she works closely with the Ismaili Tariqa and Religious Education Boards (ITREBs) globally, supporting the continuing professional development of secondary teachers in the field to build local capacity across diverse contexts.

Heena has over 13 years of experience as a STEP educator and leader, with a background in teaching, mentoring and programme leadership. She previously served as Regional Academic Lead for Central USA, where she focused on international partnerships. She has taught and mentored STEP educators in the USA, Europe, East Africa, and South and Far East Asia. Her work centres on building cross-cultural partnerships and sharing practice across contexts, including supporting the recruitment and training of incoming international educators.

In her own teaching, Heena draws on more than five years as a museum educator at the Dallas Museum of Art. She brings her interest in art and architecture into the classroom and uses objects and visual sources to deepen student inquiry.
