Biography
Marjan is an editor who concentrates mainly on encyclopaedias and other reference works.
Marjan gained her BA in Urdu language and literature in 1996 from the University of Tehran. She worked for many years on the Great Islamic Encyclopaedia (Dāʾirat al-Maʿārif Buzurg-i Islāmī ) at the Centre for the Great Islamic Encyclopaedia in Tehran (1996–2004). She came to England in 2004 and found employment at The Institute of Ismaili Studies (IIS). While working at IIS, Marjan completed an MA in the History of Art and Archaeology at SOAS in 2015. She currently works in the Publishing Unit of IIS where she has worked, inter alia on the Encyclopaedia Islamica, the Historical Dictionary of the IsmailisAdherents of a branch of Shi’i Islam that considers Ismail, the eldest son of the Shi’i Imam Jaʿfar al-Ṣādiq (d. 765), as his successor., the Encyclopaedia of the Ismailis, and Ismaili Sources, Studies, History and Traditions.
