Biography
Dr Aliyyah Datoo is a Teacher Educator whose work focuses on inclusive education, examining the social, cultural, and policy contexts that shape teaching and learning across diverse educational settings.
Dr Datoo is a Teacher Educator in the Department of Education at the Institute of Ismaili Studies, where she contributes to curriculum development, teacher education, and programme design at both primary and secondary levels. She brings over fifteen years of professional experience spanning educational leadership and management, teaching, research, and advocacy, with work carried out across the UK, Germany, Sweden, the Netherlands, Canada, and East Africa.
Dr Datoo holds a BSc from the University of Ottawa and both an MA and an MTeach (awarded with Distinction) from the UCL Institute of Education. She completed her PhD at the University of Windsor, specialising in the social, political, and cultural contexts of education. Her doctoral work was recognised with a nomination for the Governor General’s Gold Medal, one of Canada’s most prestigious academic honours.
Her scholarly and professional interests are grounded in inclusive education, with particular focus on disability, parental engagement, and child and adolescent development, alongside the broader social and policy dimensions that shape educational environments. Drawing on extensive international and voluntary experience, Dr Datoo is committed to advancing evidence-informed and innovative approaches that promote equity and accessibility across diverse educational contexts.
