- Explore the rich intellectual and architectural heritage of the IsmailisAdherents of a branch of Shi’i Islam that considers Ismail, the eldest son of the Shi’i Imam Jaʿfar al-Ṣādiq (d. 765), as his successor. during the Fatimid North Africa, fostering an understanding of the role of art, architecture, and literature in shaping Muslim civilisations both historically and in contemporary times.
- Introduce participants to the major figures, ideas, and developments shaping Ismaili history, thought, and practice in Fatimid North Africa (present-day Tunisia and northwest Algeria), situating these within the broader context of Muslim traditions and heritage.
- Develop a nuanced, experience-based understanding of Fatimid North Africa by examining key events, regions, and the socio-political dynamics of the era with prevailing challenges and opportunities in Tunisia today.
- Cultivate critical, analytical, and historical thinking skills to deepen participants’ understanding of the relationship between past and present and how historical perspectives inform contemporary beliefs, interpretations, and values.
