Dr Launa Gauthier leads the Teaching and Learning Centre at IIS. She works across the Institute to advance the Teaching and Learning Strategy and to build professional development pathways for faculty, staff and students.
Her scholarship and leadership are both driven by one question: how academic development can be built collaboratively with faculty and students. Her work gives particular attention to curriculum design, educational quality and inclusive practice across diverse institutional and cultural contexts.
Dr Gauthier is co-editor of The Bloomsbury Handbook of Student Voice in Higher Education (Bloomsbury, 2024). She has published in higher education journals including the International Journal for Students as Partners, the International Journal for the Scholarship of Teaching and Learning, the Journal of Educational Innovation, Partnership and Change and Innovations in Education and Teaching International.
Before joining IIS, she co-founded the LUMS Learning Institute at the Lahore University of Management Sciences in Pakistan. There she served as Interim Director and as Senior Strategic Advisor for Teaching and Learning in the Office of the Vice Chancellor. She has also held educational development roles at Conestoga College, McMaster University and Queen’s University in Canada. Across these roles, her work has focused on establishing new centres, designing faculty development provision and advancing institutional teaching and learning strategies. She also co-founded, and continues to grow, a community supporting early-career women educators in Pakistan.
