IIS scholar performs at the British Museum

Hussain Jasani Head of the South Asian Studies UnitDr William Rees Hofmann, Research Associate in the South Asian Studies Unit at IIS, was recently invited to perform at the British Museum as part of their Silk Roads exhibition. He performed in the South Asia gallery on both the Indian sarod and the Afghan rubab, and was accompanied by Junaid Ali on tabla. During the performance, Dr Hofmann also introduced the instruments to the packed audience, discussed how the two instruments were related, and explained their connections to trading routes along the Silk Road. The event also featured performances by a Persian music ensemble, Turkish and Uyghur musicians, as well as the SOAS Chinese Music Ensemble. The performance was very well-received.
