Dr Maryam Rezaee is a lecturer and a course convenor and field project coordinator in the Department of Graduate Studies. She holds a PhD in Politics from the University of York, an MSc in Gender and Social Policy from the London School of Economics and Political Science and a BA in Mathematics from the university of Al-Zahra in Tehran.

Her PhD thesis entitles Women and Higher Education: An Analysis of the Relationship between Higher education and Women’s Empowerment with Special Reference to the Ismaili Women of the two major cities of Tehran and Mashhad in Iran.

Her teaching experience includes courses on Introduction to Shi’sm, Research Design and Methods, Modern Ismailism with particular reference to the Ismailis of Iran and mathematics. Her research interests include women and development, education, Islam and religion, ritual and cultural studies. She has presented several papers and two documentaries at national and international conferences.
